The Intervention class at The Lawson Academy will begin incorporating the Edgenuity program into our weekly lessons beginning the week of August 31, 2020. Edgenuity is a standards-aligned video-based curriculum that offers students a third level of learning. Our students will continue to be provided instruction from their core Reading and Math teachers as well as from the Intervention team.
We have started preparing students for this transition. Students were given their usernames and passwords this week. Placement tests for Reading and Math were given to students on August 27-28, 2020. The plan is to have students working on their Edgenuity lessons by Tuesday, September 1, 2020. If you have any questions about the Edgenuity program, you may contact the Intervention teachers, Mr. Wilson and Ms. Whiting, or school administrators.
Students at The Lawson Academy are actively learning every day. Computers come on at 7:15 (some early-risers are logging on at 7) and we see students learning in their bedrooms, dens, kitchens, dining rooms and all over! Starting each session with a "check-in" using the game-oriented Nearpod, students are invited to participate in active learning exercises that keep them alert and engaged. Calisthenics, led by our PE teachers, get students up and active to start their day. In this new normal, learning is central to our students' success. Every day counts for our students. Thanks to our awesome teachers for making learning fun -- and to our AMAZING parents for all they do to support the in-home learning environment for students. Let's keep on learning!

Every student should already have their laptop or desktop and be ready for the start of school on Monday, August 17 at 7:15 a.m. Our first semester will be online (as mandated by the Texas Education Agency), so computers are checked out to support all learning. This year we also provide all the school supplies and a uniform t-shirt for students to wear during classes. NO EXCUSES! See you on August 17th at 7:15 a.m.

This is the opportunity for parents to meet with our faculty and staff. During distance learning, parents should feel comfortable with students' teachers. This is one way we "connect" even while we are remote!
We are excited to start the new school year with computers and awesome technology for every learner.
