Part of math entails dealing with positive and negative numbers in integers, and still it is a field that most children are unable to grasp. You can help your children quickly learn the fundamentals of positive and negative numbers by recalling a couple of simple rules.
ADDING INTEGERS
It seems daunting to add integers, but there are two laws that will work with any issue with addition.
SUBTRACTING INTEGERS
For most children, subtracting integers seems to be the trickiest process. However, subtraction can be easier for children to learn by taking three steps.
These simple concepts will give students a solid base for dealing with integer numbers in the future when the he/she starts to think about positive and negative values. Students should write these rules on an index card. During math time, they can then hold the card in front of them until they have memorized the rules.

This week, the 7th and 8th grade Intervention classes began their several weeks journey through "Percent Land". Currently, students should be finishing up their Edgenuity lesson, "Introduction to Percent". To keep up with the class, students should make sure this lesson is complete before the weekend is over. Next week, we plan to continue our journey with "Finding Percent of a Number". Please check in with your child to make sure he/she is completing the Edgenuity lessons. If students need additional help with learning about Percentages, an excellent additional resource is the Math-Antics video collection on YouTube. "What's a Percentage" would be a great place to start. We want your child to be successful. We're in this together.
The Lawson Academy has published a Survey for All Parents to complete. We want to know whether your student will:

Good evening
This is just a reminder of what's taking place in Edgenuity Math and Reading Invention class. We just want the students to continue to work on the assignments assigned for the week. 6th grade students are working on Math A Prime Factorization and 7th and 8th grade students are working on Introduction to Percent. Progress reports are being given out this week. Remember all students who have tried out for the different organization must attend all rehearsal. Check with the leader of each organization for time and place.
When Tropical Storm Beta arrived this week, students were already in their homes.
Virtual learning didn't stop for even a second -- thanks to our amazing staff and parents for being the best in Houston!

Hello Tiger Nation!
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week! The students have been hard at work refining their minds and bodies so as to achieve the best version of themselves. We have covered several topics along the way such as healthy eating, identifying hopes and dreams, giving and earning respect, time management skills, and creating a positive attitude from within. The students have also been engaging in a range of various workouts throughout the week as well! We have stressed that all of the aspects learned in this class can be applied to the lives of the students to become successful individuals academically and in everyday life. I have placed a video down below to one of the many motivational videos that the students have had the opportunity to analyze. Please feel free to watch it and maybe even start up a conversation with your child about their thoughts regarding this video. Thank you for your continued support concerning your students and our Lawson Academy!

Once they are finished, they will be assigned theie lessons. All 6th graders will start with Basic Math A and Basic Reading A. All 7th and 8th graders will start with Intermediate Math A and Intemediate Reading A. We really look forward in watching the students progress as we go through the lessons. I want to thank you in advance ...
As of Tuesday September 8, 2020, the 6th grade students this week will be working on prime numbers and prime factorization. This lesson will teach the students how to find the prime number of any given number. Keep up the good work.
The 7th and 8th grade students this week will be working with graphing proportional relationships. This is a continuation of last weeks lesson which was finding constant of proportionality. This week they will learn how to plot a graph and find the relationship of a line. Keep up the good work.
We still need the students to continue to work on the assignments in Edgenuity. 6th Grade is Basic Math A. and Basic Reading A. The 7th and 8th Grade is Intermediate Math A, and Intermediate Reading A, which is due by Friday September 11, 2020.
Progress reports will be issued with the next week.
The 7th and 8th grade Intervention classes will continue their learning about proportional relationship with a focus on graphing. Students will be using several resources to assist their learning. Students will interactively plot points using a Math-Is-Fun app. They will be able to determine proportionality from an interactive graph builder found on the http://www.shodor.org/ website. And finally, to enhance their grasp of new words, student will have access to teacher generated vocabulary study cards which are located on the www.quizlet.com website. The URL to access these cards will be placed on TEAMS under assignments for Intervention class.
Hello Tiger Nation!
We are having a great year here at The Lawson Academy! We are into our third week of classes and have been learning so much in such a short amount of time. Not only have the students been gaining knowledge with their minds but have also been engaging in several body movement workouts to improve physical fitness. During week one we focused on understanding the different types of aerobic and anaerobic body movements as well as the benefits of exercise regarding overall health and wellness . On the Social Emotional Learning side of the coin, we explored three critical key areas involving communication, decision making skills, and goal setting. The following week the students studied the muscular and nervous systems in addition to confidence building strategies and self-talk. This week we have delved into the world of fitness and all of the elements that it encompasses as well as verbal and non-verbal communication. Next week, we will explore muscular strength in greater detail as it pertains to the elements of fitness and take a deeper look into making the right decisions or choices in everyday life. The students are working so hard and are showing a determination to learn and grow! Thank you for your continued support concerning your students and our Lawson Academy!
