ACADEMICS

No child is just a mathematician. Or just an athlete. Or just a painter. In fact, every child can be ANYTHING he/she decides to be.

The success of each scholar requires that we prepare students to meet any challenges they may face in life and in their academic career through learning about oneself, developing positive social behaviors, social and emotional development, resilience, and the ability to view and appreciate beauty.

The Lawson Academy operates two campuses under one Principal. Both Boys and Girls campuses are located at 5052 Scott Street, Houston, TX 77004, close to the WALIPP Senior Residence. The campus was opened in the fall of 2017, making it possible for the school to own its own space.

The Lawson Academy students take pride in their school. They must not destroy or deface school property. Any scholar who participates in acts of vandalism on campus may be referred to the proper law enforcement agency. In any case, students will be required to pay restitution or perform civil remuneration.

The Lawson Academy prepares students for the STAAR exam with engaging classes, doubling-up on math and reading (which they need) and getting students to ‘dig the data’ to understand their own strengths and weaknesses.

Parents are engaged in Student Led Conferences where the scholar explains how they have performed using graded student work, assessments and administrator feedback. Students invite their parent to attend, and then “lead” the conference.

Homework

Parents can become involved with their child’s education in many ways. The Lawson Academy values the at-home contributions and those that take place at school. Reading to students at home or discussing the day’s activities over the dinner table are as important as volunteering at school. The Lawson Academy is happy to assist parents in understanding the academic standards and assessments, help parents work with their child(ren) to raise achievement, and plan activities throughout the year for families.

  • The school day includes time for all assignments in the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • There is no assigned homework which students will be required to complete outside of the school campus.
